Historic Columbus is the sight of the last action seen by the US Calvery in 1916. Columbus was the site for the first mechanized units of the US Army during the Punative Expedition led by General John Pershing and Col. Patton of miltiary fame. The first use of aircraft in the military by the US was pioneered here with the Jenny bi-wing reconaissance plane.
Two museums are located in Columbus one at the old railroad depot and the other at Pancho Villa State Park that should not be missed for local and national culture and history.
